Class of 2020
Hometown: Harvey, LA
Major: Public Health
I chose Tulane because in addition to being recognized as a highly prestigious and rigorous university, Tulane's campus has the "at home" feeling. The campus is beautiful, and there's plenty of activities for students to get involved with. It is also a smaller university, which I knew I would adapt to better than a huge state university.
My favorite spots in New Orleans are all restaurants, to no surprise. Recently, I was fortunate enough to taste the amazing food at The Gumbo Shop, courtesy of Tulane's Explore Program. The crab and corn bisque soup was amazing. Not kidding. Also, I love a good snowball on a hot spring/summer/fall day (because it's warm almost all year round in New Orleans.) My recommended snowball stand is New Orleans Snowball on Elysians Field. They have way more than 31 flavors. Last, but certainly not least, a favorite go-to fast food joint is Louisiana's Popeyes Kitchen. Even with Popeyes nationwide, nothing beats a piece of crispy fried Popeyes Chicken directly from New Orleans.
My favorite Tulane class is Sociology of the Family with Professor Toi Carter. This class has a lot to offer, and I've already learned so much. Professor Carter is a bundle of joy! (no pun intended)
My favorite NOLA festival is Essence Festival. It takes place every summer at the Ernest M. Memorial Convention Center and the Mercedes Benz Superdome. It's a very cultural event with themes surrounding African American unity and beauty all in one. I also get to meet celebrities and attend free concerts!
